Comic Art Assignment.

The Assignment:
The students in Computer Graphics will, thru the use of their artistic skills and photoshop, compose and self-publish their own comic art anthology. Each student will create their own cover page and two or three page comic story. To do this, they will have to create their own characters and storyline.

Step 1.- Character developement. Rough sketch our individual good guys and bad guys, but just the main guys! Don't forget to list or show their special abilities: i.e. x-ray vision and stuff.

Step 2.- Storyline. It is time to draw up our storyboard.

Due to the baseball playoffs, the dog-a-day series was delayed for a few days. It should be back on track now. Unfortuately, both the White Sox and the Cubs have dropped their first two games and now face elimination. Let's go guys! It's time to get it in gear!

Dog A Day #28-Oct.4th 2008 Saturday

This is a package parody for a dog biscuit. This image was done in Photoshop. I took the waiting cur pic and had a little fun developing a package of dog biscuits for the big dogs.I am sure the ingredients will prove exceptionally palatable.

Dog A Day #20 Saturday 09-20-08 "The Big Palouka Pledge"

I pledge my grievance to the fragged
of the United Snakes of America....
and to our damned public
owing countless grands,
one nation, run by dogs,
who think they're invincible,
dealing unlimited injustice
to the small.
Today's work of art is in the form of the spoken word. It will be auctioned off in the form of a t-shirt as wearable art.

Monarchs Win!

The Ruston Monarchs won the adult baseball championship today with a 4-2 win over The U.P. Cortizone.Daryl Jay Frank started the game and Lance Donaly closed the deal after a two run homer by David Bingham. Why they didn't walk or hit him is anyones guess.Bingham and Donaly share theMVP honors. D.J.Frank did himself proud with an array of breaking stuff. GOOD WORK TO THE CHAMPION MONARCHS!

Dog a Day #13 "The Final Pitch"

This is a picture of the artist making his final pitch.Yesterday, the Ruston Monarchs split the first two games of their championship series with the University Place Cortizone, losing 8-6 before winning the second game by the score of 7-6.Today's game will be at 1pm for the whole enchilada as they say. Daryl Jay Frank will be making the start, the final start of a long and illustrious career.
"This old dog has been pitching a long, long time but he'll be leaving his spikes at home plate following the game, win or lose. That's enough to make him today's 'Dog A Day' posting. The art is a self-portrait of the pitcher/artist. Good Luck and GO MONARCHS!"

The Big Palouka

I was talking with a friend of mine named "Brambles" the other morning. We were discussing favorite ways to pass the time while our people are off at work or school or where ever.
Brambles The Cat(yes, I do have a few cat friends) mentioned the Republican National Convention and the speeches therein.
"Did you here what McCain's wife said about that Palin person? She called her a fishin', bear-shootin',pistol-packin' momma!"said Brambles." i'm not too fond of racoon's but bears are perfectly OK in my book.
"Well", I replied" I haven't met a bear I didn't like except maybe those wooden ones carved out of logs with chain-saws ,sitting on people's lawns. I've always wanted to hunt one but it was just for the scent and a chance to introduce myself."
"Yeah" Brambles added,"She's being touted as some tuff lady!"
"If she was really so tuff," I added " let her go bear hunting with a pocketknife... anybody's tuff when they have a loaded gun to point!".Besides, I heard she told a joke about hockey moms and pit bulls, that the only difference between them is lipstick. Well, you know why a hockey mom IS like a pit bull? Neither one is qualified to be Vice-President."

Dog A Day # 6 "Doberman"

This is a drawing of a Doberman Pin dog.
I knew a Doberman named "Tara" and she was a special dog and the inspiration here. I used to walk with her down Sheridan Rd. in Rogers Park on the North side of Chicago. She would wear my leather jacket as we went to Leona's Italian Restaurant to pick up some carry-out. She was such a cool dog. When I called out "DEAD BIRD!" she would roll over and stick her legs up in the air. (she did not have cropped ears just the tail). This art is15'' x 12", the art is 8" x 12". This is an original art piece.

Dog a Day #4- (09-04-08) "A Dog's Meditation"

This is an illustration of a dog waiting for dinner.

That's me, The Big Palouka. I was used as the model for this illustration. Daryl says the motivation for this piece dates back to a poster that was on a lot of walls back in college.
It was an older bearded man in meditation or prayer at a table with some soup and bread. This is sort of the same basic theme thru the eyes of a dog. Don't forget to start checking ebay this week-end so you may bid on your favorite art. Also, e-mail or blog pictures or ideas of things you would like to see done. You never know...... maybe your favorite pet has what it takes to be a famous work of art!

Howling for the 'A' Train

"
"Howling For The 'A' Train" is the latest work of Daryl Jay Frank.

" I was looking to create as abstract and bizarre a situation for a NY subway station as I could possibly come up with. Anyone who has spent a good deal of time in the underground will tell you ' not to be too shocked by what you may see.......'. Well, I guess this fits into that genre. An African Wild Dog looking for the train to Harlem!"
Look for this work to be on display at The Amsterdam-Whitney Fine Art Gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan,NYC in the summer of 2009."
